Castle of Arco
Its existence is recorded in the 12th century as a freehold estate of the community which was ruled by the lords of Arco. The settlement, which is the
subject of a painting by Dürer, grew over time to become a sort of fortified village. Damaged in 1703 by the cannonades of Vendôme, it was gradually
abandoned. Restoration work has revealed some interesting finds such as a room decorated with marvellous frescos which date back to the courtly
style of the first half of the 14th century.
